Description: The Calvinist likes to talk about secret decrees that only they know about and act as if they must be true because there are things God has not revealed to us in the Scripture. The problem with this illogical thinking is that God's secrets DO NOT contradict what He has revealed. The "secret will" as taught in Calvinism makes God a liar and perverts His revelation of Himself into fables and myths. They do not believe that what God reveals in the Scripture is true, but only what happens is God's true will, His secret will. This is blasphemy, error, and soul-damning heresy.

TRANSCRIPT OF THE VIDEO:

Brother Hicks Speaking: Hello brothers and sisters, today I want to talk to you about “Does God have a secret will?” This is specifically dealing with Calvinism because I have stated numerous times in other videos that the “secret will of God” as found in Calvinism is false. It is a lie, this idea of secret decrees that contradict the Scripture. Let me just explain [their teaching] real quickly. Calvinism teaches that God has a secret will that is contrary to the Scripture, different than the Scripture, contradicts the Scripture, and it is this: “Whatever happens is God’s will, because anything that happens could only happen by the decree of God.” [In their error] God decreed everything that would ever happen, every murder, every rape, every good deed, every bad deed, is the decree of God. Every thought, Calvin says, [God] even puts the thoughts [in men].  These things are all done by “God’s instigation,” as Calvin words it. His decrees, He instigates and pushes men to do what He decreed they do. They do not act of their own free will, but they because He decreed.

This is a false teaching. As you have seen in other videos I have talked about God having secret things that He does not reveal to everyone. Deuteronomy 29:29 is one of the verses Calvinists try to use, and I want you to understand how twisted this is, what the verse actually says and what they try to make it say is so completely different.

Deuteronomy 29:29, says, “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God…” Here is the issue, they say those “secret things” are what Calvinism teaches. Those decrees that Calvinism says are what God actually wills [and] that is the secret things of God. There is NO Scripture saying that! Every Scripture they could possibly pull talking about mystery and secrets and knowledge that was not revealed until now has NOTHING to do with Calvinism. It doesn’t prove Calvinism, [and] as a matter of fact many of those passages, if you just read down a few verses, [they contain] plenty of things disproving Calvinism.

The thing is these people twist things like, for example, where I talk about [the] secret will, the secret will of Calvinism is not Biblical, it is not a teaching of Scripture, it is a false teaching, a fatalistic teaching, it has nothing to do with Scripture, and it contradicts the Scripture in many cases. I have even given them a number of verses like Jeremiah 7:31, Jeremiah 32:35. Also I have given in other places Jeremiah 19:5.

“And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.” (Jeremiah 7:31)

“They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind” (Jeremiah 19:5).

“And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.” (Jeremiah 32:35).

These are all verses where the Lord Himself is speaking about Himself. He is revealing His characteristics here, His nature, and He says that He DID NOT command the sins these men were doing! He didn’t command it! He did not decree it, He plainly says that, and yet Calvinism says He did decree it because men could not do it except He decree it. That is how vile and evil this religion of Calvin is, this cult of Calvin. They believe Calvinism and Gnosticism over the Scripture. We have a plain Scripture where God reveals a truth about Himself and they reject it for this “secret knowledge.”  And it is not secret, it is merely something they made up and they follow over the Scripture.

The secret things of God are not to over-ride the things He has revealed. God does not reveal one thing in Scripture and then have a secret will that is the exact opposite. So when God says, “Thou shalt not kill,” He means that. When men kill they are disobeying Him, NOT doing His [decreed] will. Yes, Calvinism will say, “thou shalt not kill,” but what they really believe is that whatever you are actually able to do is God’s will, because, [according to them], you could not do something except God decreed it.

The interesting thing is that I make videos rebuking the blasphemy of Calvinism, the utter doctrines of devils that is Calvinism, and instead of Calvinists praising God that I am making videos against their false beliefs, because in their world-view, in their belief, God decreed that I make these videos. God literally decreed that I should make these videos against Calvinism, so why aren’t they praising Him for it? Why are they not rejoicing in His will? They say that everything God decreed is for His good pleasure, so in their view God is getting pleasure from my very videos rebuking Calvinism, and yet they don’t praise Him [for it], because they really don’t believe Calvinism. It is one of the intellect where men mentally acknowledge it, but in their heart there is always that drawing telling them “This [Calvinism] isn’t true, this can’t be true.” This is why many of them eventually become atheists, or they go… I saw one Calvinist became a Mormon, but they get in these other religions and false beliefs because they can’t really have any kind of heart and accept the doctrines of Calvinism. They are mentally accepted by people who like to practice debate tactics and stuff, for example, my talking about the secret will in Calvinism and how it is false, instead of them being honest and saying, “Okay, this guy does not believe in the decrees of God [as taught in Calvinism],” they say, “He doesn’t believe in secret will at all, that God has any kind of secret knowledge,” and they try to rebuke that [lie]. They literally make up something completely false that I am not talking about, they “rebuke” it, and then say, “See we must be right.” Because this point, he did not say but we are claiming he said it, is wrong, so we must be right.

My friends, if we are going to be Christians we have to approach the Scripture and believe what the Scripture says. They say “Sola Scriptura,” [but] they don’t believe it. They believe “Sola Calvinism.” They follow Calvinism alone. They don’t believe the Scripture, because when the Scripture says one thing [like] God “Who will have all men to be saved” (1 Timothy 2:4), they don’t believe that. They believe that if God wanted all men to be saved, they would be saved, so that [1 Timothy 2:4] must not be true because otherwise they would be saved. This is how their view is, that everything has to happen if it is God’s will. Whatever happens is His will.  Where we as Christians walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), they walk by sight, not by faith. They literally follow whatever happens as God’s will. We follow the Scripture, and we are led by the Spirit, Who does not contradict the Scripture, but He confirms and acknowledges the Scripture He inspired [2 Timothy 3:16]. They have a will and a secret will of God that is not some secret God actually has, but it is false, Gnostic beliefs that they cling to that they use to contradict the Scripture.

Now, a Calvinist asked me some questions, so I am going to read the verses he gave to “prove” [his Calvinism]. Now listen to this! I am not picking and choosing, [rather] this was his main argument that he sent me defending the “secret will of God” in Calvinism. I am not talking about God having secret things that He has not revealed, that is obvious. Obviously God has not revealed everything to us in His word, but what He has revealed in His word there is nothing He has that is secret that contradicts it. So when God says “I did not command these things” (Jeremiah 7:31; 19:5; 32:35), He does not have some secret will up here where He really did command it. God is not a liar. “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent” (Numbers 23:19). God is not a liar (Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18). Calvinists have a god that is a liar. They have a god that says he didn’t command things that he really did command. They have a god that says he did not even think of these things who really did think of them, not only did he think of them, but he thought them up and put them in the hearts of those men to do. And he commanded they do it, and instigated it in his secret will, [so that] they could not do anything but those things, and yet in the Bible He [God] says He didn’t command them. It is utter, utter blasphemy and nonsense!

Here are the verses this man used to “prove” his secret will [of Calvinism]. This man gives Matthew 10:29, I am going to go a few verses after it as well, just so we can see the context. This is Jesus speaking, “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31). A corresponding verse [is found in] Luke 12:6-7, “Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

What is the idea here? It is not that God decreed these sparrows died. I do not even understand how a Calvinist could think that is what is being said here. All that is being said here is “God knows [all].” If God knows a sparrow and they cannot even fall to the ground without Him seeing it, and the very hairs of our head are numbered, all of them are numbered, we are of more value than many sparrows. If He observes and sees even a sparrow, with as small and valueless as a sparrow is, and God knows when they fall, of how much more value are you? Jesus is not making any kind of point about God knew beforehand and decreed that this bird would die at that exact point, He made the bird to die at that moment. That is not what it says at all! It says, your Father knows, they are not forgotten before God. He knows all things as we see in 1 John 3:20. God knows all things, but knowing all things does not mean  that He decreed and commanded all things. All things do not happen because of the command of God.

That is the utter folly of Calvinism. They walk by sight, [and] everything they see they believe is God’s will. Anything that happens is God’s will [according to them], except if you make a video against Calvinism then that is somehow against God’s will and they have to fight it. Instead of praising God that I am making videos, because He decreed I make them and I am doing His will, according to their teaching I am doing His will. So why would they fight it? Why would they fight against God’s will? I am making the videos God decreed I make, so why would they fight it? It is because they do not really believe that nonsense. They know it [Calvinism] is a lie. They know deep down it is a lie and the Spirit of God is constantly prompting them to come to the faith and to reject Calvinism and come to Jesus Christ, to stop trying to go in another way, as a thief sneaks in another way as we see in John 10:1, but [instead] come to the Father through Jesus Christ! This is something they won’t do, because they believe that God has to regenerate them first, then they will repent and believe. Until then, they refuse, they absolutely refuse it, and when you get down to it, Calvinists do not even believe in repentance. What they call “repentance” they start finding ways to change it to something else, [in order] to line up with their unredeemed lives. Their lives are only unredeemed and unregenerate, because they refuse to repent and believe the gospel.

They refuse to believe the truth, 2 Thessalonians 2:13, says that we are chosen to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit AND belief of the truth.  Belief of the truth is part of salvation. You can’t believe a lie like Calvinism and be saved. You can’t believe in a foreign god and be saved. You can’t believe in a Jesus that didn’t die for all men and be saved. Calvinism is a lie, it is a damnable lie, it is utter heresy and blasphemy against a holy God. It blasphemes a holy God and declares all filth, sin, iniquity, profanity, vanity, evil ever is from the heart of God. That is their god. That is not the God of the Bible.

Another verse the guy gave in order to “prove” his Calvinistic idea of God decreeing all things before they happen was Job 14:5, though he said 15:4, but I think he meant 14:5. He did not quote the exact verse, but I am pretty sure that is what he meant since I have heard other Calvinists quote this verse.

Job 14:5, “Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass.”

So they take this, because God determined the number of days for each man that this must mean God decreed everything that ever happened. The only thing you can prove from this verse is that God has determined the number of days of each man, and we see in Hezekiah’s case that in certain cases you can plead on the mercy of God and have your life extended (2 Kings 20:1-6). So God has determined your days, but in the great grace of God and His mercy, you can have your days extended even! You can shorten your days as well. This does not fit in with Calvinism at all. They have to try to wiggle and wrest out of this, saying, “Well, Hezekiah was only allowed to live a little bit longer because God decreed he would live that long anyway. He did not really mean it the first time when He sent Isaiah in there to tell Hezekiah that he was going to die. He really meant that he was going to live longer.” That’s their god. Their god lies. The God of the Bible is sincere and honest, He CANNOT lie, so when He says one thing, it is true.

You can have a thousand “secret wills” you want to make up, but none of them are true if they contradict what God said! Yes, God has secret knowledge and there are things that He does not reveal to us, but that is the very point of it, He doesn’t reveal them to us. Your Calvinism and these “secret decrees” are not secret if you are talking about them. Either God revealed them and they are no longer secret, or He didn’t reveal them and they are still secrets kept with Him alone. The reality is that Calvinism denies the revealed will of God and it is thus false. It is utter error and is false. Whatever God has in His secret will that He has not revealed to us does not contradict the Scripture. It does not contradict the plain revelation of who God is, and when He reveals something about Himself, what He reveals is true. That is Him revealing something secret, revealing it to us. So we see in Jeremiah [7:31; 19:5; 32:35] He is revealing to people [these sins] are not His will, He didn’t decree this, and it completely destroys Calvinism and this idea that God decreed all things that would ever happen, because it is very plain that He didn’t command those things. He did not decree them. I do not know how much simpler it can be, it is just that simple. What God has revealed to us is true, and His secret will is not going to contradict what is revealed to us.

Calvinism has all kinds of loopholes trying to get around that and trying to make their “secret will” be above Scripture. They don’t care if it contradicts Scripture, because… here is what needs to be stressed, the Calvinist does not approach Scripture looking for truth, [rather] they approach Scripture looking for “proof” of their beliefs, the things they already hold to be true, their Calvinist religion, that is what they go to Scripture looking for. They do not go to Scripture saying, “Wait, maybe I am wrong. If God says He didn’t command these things, but my belief is that He did, who is right?” Your average Calvinist would say they’re right, and reject God, and make God a liar. But that is because His word is not in them and they do not know Him.

This is why it is so utterly important that you do not get tangled up in these errors, but [instead] follow the Lord Jesus Christ. You must believe the truth. I do not make these videos against Calvinism to go against Calvinists, [but because] I want Calvinists to be saved. I grieve for them and their lost state, because many of these Calvinists, I really believe, want to serve God, but on their path to serving God they have taken a detour into error. I want encourage you, if you are a Calvinist, to get back on the narrow way. Turn from Calvinism, turn from any false way, and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ. Repent and believe the gospel today. Turn from ALL sin, not just a few [sins], all sin, to Jesus Christ. Let the Holy Spirit regenerate you and you be made new because you have repented and believed the gospel. You are a new creature in Christ and you leave the utter depravity of Calvinism and other false ways and you follow the Lord.

And you believe this book [the Bible is held up], this book alone you follow and believe it. If something in this book contradicts something you believe, you reject what you believe, and you believe this. Stop following men. I am not even telling you to follow me, follow this [the Bible]. Follow this. The Holy Spirit is NEVER going to lead you into something that contradicts the Scripture. Any man telling you something that contradicts the Scripture is being led of the devil. It is that simple. Stop following devil-possessed men. Stop following men destitute of the truth. Start following Jesus Christ. May the Lord Jesus bless you.
