The Earth was created in the dateless past in the beginning (Gen. 1:1). Then the inhabitants and their leader Lucifer were judged and the earth was flooded (Gen. 1:2; Jer. 4:23-26; 2 Pet. 3:5-7). When God restored the earth back to a habitable state the earth was only one piece of land, not many pieces (continents and islands).

Genesis 1:9-10
9   And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10   And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

On day three of the restoration, God divided the flood waters that were leftover from Lucifer's Flood "unto ONE place." When the waters were separated into one place the land they were moved from appeared. Thus, the earth was originally restored to be one solid piece of land. This is further seen in the following Scriptures.

Genesis 10:25
25   And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.

1 Chronicles 1:19
19   And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg; because in his days the earth was divided: and his brother's name was Joktan.

God divided the earth into continents and islands in the days of Peleg. Eber's son's name "Peleg" means division. This dividing of the earth happened after God had taken the people of the earth and "scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth" (Gen. 11:8). This would explain how people had came to be on the various islands and continents that are thousands of miles from the middle east and Babel before the many great sea explorations many years after them. This also shows that the Bible taught that the earth was one piece of land that became divided 4,000 years before scientists finally realized this. There is no way that Moses, the author of the book of Genesis, could have known that the earth was at one time one solid piece of land (Gen. 1:9-10) and that it was divided (Gen. 10:25) except that it was divinely revealed to him as we see in the Scriptures previously referenced.

A question to the Bible skeptic: How did Moses know that the earth was originally one piece of land and that it was later divided if what he recorded about God creating everything and later dividing the earth is not correct? Sincerely think about it!
